# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • They taste indulgent but are packed with real nutrition that actually sustains you through the afternoon.
  • No baking required, which means you can make a batch while your coffee brews on a lazy weekend morning.
  • The warm spice blend hits differently when you use fresh ginger and turmeric instead of powders.
02 -
  • Fresh ginger and turmeric make an enormous difference in flavor depth; the fresh versions have a brightness that powders simply cannot replicate, and I learned this the hard way after making a batch with only ground spices.
  • If your mixture feels too wet after blending, don't panic—just refrigerate it for 10 minutes and it becomes much easier to roll, which saved me from adding extra flour one afternoon.
03 -
  • If your dates are on the drier side, soak them in warm water for 5 minutes before blending—it makes them blend into the mixture more seamlessly and creates a better texture.
  • Use a cookie scoop to portion out the mixture; it's faster than trying to eyeball tablespoon-sized portions, and every ball turns out roughly the same size.
